A recent Chowan Advance article highlights the positive impact Apex Clean Energy’s Timbermill Wind Project is having on the county’s property tax revenue. Timbermill Wind started operations in December 2024, created over 200 construction jobs, and has spent over $25 million with local businesses.
The good news keeps coming. Chowan County’s recently proposed 2026-2027 budget increases overall spending by $1.5 million, of which the county expects to receive $700,000 from the Timbermill Wind in property taxes – paying for nearly half of the increase. The proposed budget also recommends a lower property tax rate after property values increased 26% on average following a county-wide revaluation. Contrary to some critics of the project, property values have gone up, not down since the project was brought on line and the additional revenue provides the county with flexibility on setting property tax rates.
Apex Clean Energy and the Timbermill Wind Project are a testament to how local communities benefit from large scale clean energy investment, and we are proud to call them a client of Kairos Government Affairs.
